Kidderminster youngsters learn about recycling
8:00am Saturday 4th February 2012

EXCITED staff and children at a local day nursery in Kidderminster were delighted when a recycling truck pulled up to help them learn about rubbish and recycling.
The youngsters, from Hickory Dickory Dock Day Nursery, watched excitedly out of the window as the large yellow truck pulled up, lights flashing, and the crew stepped out.
The children watched as bins were tipped into the back of the vehicle and compacted and were told about what happens to the rubbish when it goes in the truck.
Jo Duffield, waste minimisation officer at Wyre Forest District Council, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit, watching as the bins were lifted up, emptied into the truck and the material squashed up to fit more in.
“It’s important for children to understand what happens to their rubbish and a simple way to teach them to recycle is through playing fun sorting games and looking at recycled products.”
Conservative councillor Marcus Hart, the district council’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “Getting children engaged with recycling at an early age is a great way of educating them to look after the environment in the future.”
