Footloose and fancy free in Kidderminster
8:00am Sunday 5th February 2012

DANCING is not a crime for students at a Kidderminster school who will be performing a classic musical.
This year’s King Charles I school production will be a performance of Footloose.
It takes place at the school and will run for four nights from Tuesday, February 7 until Friday, February 10.
Katie Warrington, head of drama, said: “Despite it being the most demanding performance to date, students are rising to the challenge.
“We are looking forward to performing it. Everyone has enjoyed working in is so far and it is really rewarding to see.”
The production tells the story of Ren McCormack, played by Greg Bennett, a young man who moves to a city called Bomont in the USA.
Within the city, drugs, drinking and dancing have been made illegal after the minister of the city’s son was killed in a car crash. Ren pushes for the ban on dancing to be lifted.
The play, based on the 1984 film of the same name, features students from ages 11 to 18 who have been ferociously learning fast-paced dance routines and musical numbers in preparation for the show.
Katie added: “We decided we wanted to do something with a lot of dancing and we are excited. Anyone can attend and we all hope there will be a big audience at the school.
“Every Tuesday and Friday since October, more than 50 dedicated and talented students have been working so hard.”
