Kidderminster man denies intimidating witness
3:05pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012
A MAN facing trial before magistrates in Kidderminster threatened to burn down a witness's home, a jury was told.
Jamie Walker was driven to a block of flats while drunk and shouted the threat to pregnant Rebecca Treacy, it was alleged.
Miss Treacy contacted police the same night and the trial, due the next day, was postponed for three months.
Walker, 26, of St Cecilia Close, Kidderminster, denies intimidation of a witness on August 16 last year.
Prosecutor Lisa Hancox said Miss Treacy was at home in Dunlin Drive, Kidderminster at 6.30pm when Walker stood outside and scared her with his threat.
At first he told police he was not at the flats, then he changed his mind and said he was there but did not intimidate anyone. He claimed Miss Treacy made the complaint up, Worcester Crown Court heard.
Giving evidence, Miss Treacy said she was only three weeks away from giving birth when a car pulled up outside her first floor flat and she heard a man's voice from inside the vehicle swearing and asking "what was going on".
She then allegedly saw Walker get out of the Peugeot with another man and the female driver and walk down an alley.
Miss Treacy said Walker was slurring his speech and swaying, holding a can of beer.
All the flat's windows were open on a hot day. She said she heard Walker shout: "Fancy grassing me up like that. I'm going to burn her house down."
She did not want to attend court next day because of the comments but did turn up to give evidence in the other case.
The trial continues.
