War of words continues at Kidderminster's Victoria Carpets
4:00pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012
THE war of words in the battle for control at Kidderminster’s Victoria Carpets is continuing with claims and counter claims being fired from both sides.
Former director Alexander Anton’s consortium, which is looking to take control of the board, has responded to a statement released by Victoria which labelled them “misleading”.
Tuesday’s statement from Mr Anton’s group said: “We are disappointed with Victoria’s initial response. The board has continued to indulge in scaremongering and making false accusations.
"The proposed new directors, who would like fresh impetus and thinking injected into the company, have provided a positive, straightforward and achievable strategy for the benefit of all shareholders.
“We respectfully urge all shareholders to reject the damaging game being played by the board to protect their own jobs and vote for the changes.”
Mr Anton claims his group currently has the support of about 46 per cent of shareholders.
The company is up for sale in a move the board claims gives shareholders a “real choice”.
The board had previously said the consortium had not been clear with what its strategy for the company would be.
The consortium is looking to replace two current independent non-executive directors with four of its own choice - which would give it control of the board.
Victoria’s board has urged its shareholders to vote with them, against the proposed changes, at a general meeting to be held on Tuesday, March 6.
