THE KHIST fans supporters team have become the first non-league side to win a prestigious award.

The Harriers supporters side were presented with the IFA Supporters team of 2009-10 accolade.

Last season, they travelled the length of breadth of the country to take on fellow sides from the Internet Football Association (IFA).

They compete in the 80-strong IFA league on most mornings before Harriers’ afternoon fixture and gained the most votes from their rivals to win the award.

As well as playing prowess, the silverware is also based on the organisation, friendliness and reputation built up by the side.

Joint managers David Pountney and Mark Connolly picked up the award this weekend at the national supporters tournament up in Leeds.

Pountney said: “To be the first team from the non-league to win this award is a real honour.

“We managed to field 69 players across the season and played up and down the country.

“Many non-league teams don’t bring that many fans to games, so it's says a lot about the strength of support for the club.

“We also try to be ambassadors as well, we always try to be friendly and make sure the club is seen in a good light.”

KHIST also had a 30-strong squad take part in the World Net Supporters Tournament at the weekend, which had over 80 sides competing.

The A team once again impressed, beating Portsmouth 2-0 and Derby County 4-0, while drawing with Aberdeen 2-2.

In the knockout round, which had 64 teams taking part, they saw off Rotherham United 2-1 but were knocked out in the last 16 when they lost 2-0 to France’s RC Lens.

Meanwhile, the B team lost to Dunfermline, Peterborough and drew 0-0 with Dumbarton on the first day and lost to Oxford 4-0 in the knockout tournament. There was international action for KHIST trio Brett Caulfield, Chris Lacey and Lewis Pountney as an England supporters side defeated their counterparts from Scotland 2-1.
