Twins over the Moon

11:00am Saturday 4th February 2012

KIDDERMINSTER twins Sally and Rachel Moon have both savoured a host of success in January.

The pair, who train in Wolverhampton, competed against the top junior judo players, aged 16 to 19, in the UK to try and gain a place on the Junior Great Britain squad at the trials in Sheffield.

Sally competed in a tough under-70s kilogram group and battled her way to bronze by beating the Welsh number one on the way.

Rachel managed to finish one place higher in the under-78kg group, taking the silver medal by beating her team-mate, who is currently ranked number two in Britain.

This ensures the twins both have a place on the Junior Great Britain squad for the coming year.

Two days later, the girls represented their club and county at the 2012 Commonwealth tournament in Cardiff.

Several of the commonwealth countries were in attendance, including a very strong team from South Africa.

Here, they both managed medal placings, with Rachel taking the silver in the under-78kg and Sally bronze in the under-70kg sections.

To round off a gruelling week, the twins competed again in the Midland U20s competition in Walsall, with Sally taking gold and Rachel silver in their respective weight categories.
